Using it from Vietnam

  • GitHub isn’t blocked → install normally
  • Payment: GitHub accepts international cards. You can use GitHub Sponsor or the Educational pack to get it free
  • UI is English; the AI can respond in Vietnamese if you comment/prompt in Vietnamese

Privacy & IP

GitHub Copilot offers IP indemnity at the Business tier — if your code is sued for copyright infringement, GitHub defends you. This is why many enterprises pick Copilot even though Cursor/Claude Code are stronger.

By default, Copilot may send code snippets to its servers. Disable in settings if needed (telemetry, code referencing).

When to choose Copilot?

✅ You’re on JetBrains (PyCharm, IntelliJ, Rider) ✅ You need a legitimate free tier for real work ✅ Enterprise constraints: trusted vendor, IP indemnity ✅ You don’t care much about the latest features

❌ You want state-of-the-art AI coding features → Cursor / Claude Code

✓ Pros
  • Integrates with every popular IDE
  • Free tier for students and OSS maintainers
  • Stable and reliable in enterprise environments
  • No config needed — install the plugin and you're done
✗ Cons
  • Tab autocomplete is noticeably weaker than Cursor
  • Agent mode is new and still weak
  • Less flexible model selection than Cursor
  • Privacy concerns on sensitive projects
